We are looking at ways to make all PatsyPie goodies even better.
In the middle of the night last week, I thought how nice it would be nice to add some dark cocoa into the sugar we sprinkle on top of the Chocolate Chip Biscotti. This is the same dark cocoa we use in our Double Chocolate Mini Brownies.
WOW!!! The extra punch of dark rich cocoa is amazing. And I thought it was impossible to make the original Chocolate Chip Biscotti even better and chocolatier.
I wonder what I'll dream of tonight. Morning Glory Muffins "mmmmmm". I can still them from this afternoon as they came out of the oven.

So Michael and I are driving along Route 7 in New York state today and see "Sherry Lynn's Gluten Free Bakery & Cafe".
I couldn't believe I was actually seeing a gluten-free restaurant in such a rural area. I don't even see gluten-free restaurants in Montreal.
We had just eaten lunch at some dinner but we braked, u-turned and raced back to the bakery.
IT WAS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it looks like it is closed for good. I was so disappointed :(
Poor Sherry Lynn. Poor me :(

Syracuse
I'm on vacation for two weeks.
First stop on the road to Maine: Syracuse.
Tonight, THE MISSION: 304 East Onondaga Street, Columbus Circle, Syracuse. 315-475-7344.
This authentic, absolutely beautiful Mexican restaurant is housed in an old church which was the last stop for people using the Underground Railway before going onto Canada.
Our very informative waiter, Doug, filled us in with lots of history as well as hints into Chef Steve's Chilled Avocado Soup. Very gluten friendly menu.
Next visit, the museum next door which houses many of the artifacts taken from the Church basement. Then back to the restaurant for among other things, Cuban Coffee.

Pedometers and Polenta
My new favorite side dish has become Polenta. My friend Orna, also my assistant at PatsyPie gave me the basic recipe.
One cup of Polenta mixed into 3 cups cold water.
Mix constantly over medium heat until it thickens.
Great leftover lunch the next day.
Added extras: grated fresh parmesan cheese, olive oil, butter, herbs, or tomato sauce etc.
PatsyPie Bakery fact:
I bought a pedometer this past weekend. I was worried I wasn't walking the required 10,000 recommended steps a day. My work hours are long and sometimes I'm just too exhausted to get to the gym.
My worries were groundless.
Monday: 15,1900 steps
Tuesday: 12,834 steps
Wednesday: 11,121 steps
Thursday : 12,141 steps

Happy July 1st fellow Canadians and Happy July 4th US.
Having 4 days off in a row seems so strange. I miss my bakery. Back on Wednesday.

Birthdays Equals Gluten-Free Birthday Cake
It's my birthday this coming weekend. I invited family over for a BBQ. My aunt just phoned to say she is bringing me a
Gluten-Free Birthday Cake. I can't wait!!!!!
Gluten-Free Birthday Cake. I can't wait!!!!!
Long weekend in Quebec for St. Jean Baptiste. The day turned out beautiful. Kept expecting rain but it held off until after we had been to Jean Talon Market. Quebec produce is appearing everywhere at the market.
I had a call yesterday from a store in Illinois carrying PatsyPie goodies. They wanted clarification on how our "Best Before" dates work. For everyone wondering it is: the day /month/year.
For example, a date sticker that says 04/OC/08 translates as Best Before October 4, 2008.
What was also interesting is that the person I spoke to from the store has tons of relatives in Montreal. And she loves coming to the Montreal Jazz Festival. Small world.
Over the weekend I had a Mediteranean Pizza from Pizza Pizza. And it was GLUTEN-FREE!!!!

Maria Bonita
On Saturday night, my family took us out to Maria Bonita, a Mexican restaurant :5269, ave. Casgrain corner Maguire
Montreal.
A gluten-free delight with barely a wheat product to be seen. All the tacos are made with only corn flour. It was so easy to find something safe to eat. I can't wait to go back and have their Mexican Tapas.

Saskatoon
I'm back in the bakery with lots of orders and familiar yummy baking smells. So good to be back.
Saskatoon was great! I think it is one of the friendliest Canadian cities I have ever been in. The best was Sunday morning. Michael and I were having breakfast in Broadway Cafe. About 10 Bagpipers from the North Saskatchewan Regiment walked in. They walked around the Cafe playing the bagpipes with everyone clapping along. When they were finished they sat down for breakfast. It was very moving.
Federated Co-Op sponsored an amazing weekend. Sunday night they even treated everyone participating to a concert with Bare Naked Ladies.
What a weekend.

Polenta instead of Pasta
Last night I was thinking about a couple of weeks ago when Michael and I went to Lucca Restaurant in Montreal on Dante. They offered me any pasta dish and said I could have it with Polenta or Risotto. I got the seafood sauce but with polenta on the side. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Saskatoon
I'm in Saskatoon for the Federated Co-Op Food Show. Show set-up is tomorrow so Michael and I had the day to ourselves.
In the afternoon Michael and I stopped for a Chai Tea at Calories on Broadway. I wanted to save my appetite for dinner so passed on the Chocolate Pate which was gluten-free. Looked great so I'll have to go back for it. The Chai was fantastic.
Tonight we went to Weczeria for dinner. 616 10th Street East. Just off of Broadway. Cute little restaurant with lots of paintings (mostly rabbits) on the walls to buy. From the waitress to the owner Daniel, they were all gluten-free knowledgable. Food was yummy and I had no worries. My only disappointment was they had just sold their last piece of Flourless Chocolate Cake.
